She waited for sun down. Many the others had started during the day but that wasn't her style and the professor had given the girl special permission for this time.
Her Xeroderma pigmentosum, XP, had been the cause and while it could be a bother developing rashes and blisters over her pale skin in the light and heat of the sun, why should she be left out of the chance others got free.
She pulled at the straps of her bag and made sure the bat umbrella was tied securely to it for easy access. The cute face on it seemed to smile at her or remind her to pack the SPF 500.
Skye took a breath looking over herself in the mirror. The reflection showed what could easily be mistaken for a young male, but it was her style and she really didn't care when people in the new town called her "sir". She ran a finger through her short chestnut hair swiftly and headed downstairs.

There was a tempest
on the rise

as a riot of butterflies
